Situated in northern Wyoming, the town of Buffalo is surrounded by the breathtaking foothills of the Big Horn Mountains. Located on the Cloud Peak Scenic Byway (Highway 16) at the intersections of Interstates 25 and 90, Buffalo is only a short drive from the beautiful Bighorn National Forest. With over 900,000 acres (364,217 ha) of stunning wilderness, this area is popular with outdoor enthusiasts year-round. In the summer, holiday goers participate in activities such as hiking, backpacking, ATVing and camping, while popular winter activities include cross-country skiing, snowshoeing and snowmobiling on the 132 mi (212 km) of groomed trails. Reminiscent of the Old West, this town is located near the famous Bozeman Trail and was once home to Butch Cassidy, the Sundance Kid and the infamous "Hole in the Wall" hideout. History buffs can view more than a dozen historic buildings on Main Street or they can stop at the Jim Gatchell Memorial Museum, which features over 15,000 pieces from the Old West. For a more hands-on experience, visitors can spend the night in the same rooms as well-known historical figures such as Calamity Jane,  young Teddy Roosevelt and Buffalo Bill Cody at the Occidental Hotel. Founded in 1880, this restored hotel immerses its visitors in the period with antiques and original period style while providing modern amenities such as wireless Internet and cable TV.
